Having Fun With Integers
During our last class, we spent a lot of time focusing on integers. Several classmates presented games and activities for us to work through, which was a great way to share fun ways of teaching integers to young students. After reviewing a few ground rules for adding and subtracting integers, we spent time solving an integer word problem as a class. We worked in small groups and compared answers at the end. I found this activity to be fun and encouraging since we were able to work in groups instead of individually.
I found this video to be useful. It explains the concept of adding and subtracting integers in a way that is easy to understand. This is a video that I would show to my class at the beginning of a lesson.

Our class also had the chance to play an online integer game together called "Orbit Integers". This game was fantastic and we even played against our classmates online! The point of the game is to solve given integer equations as fast as you can in order to move your spaceship ahead. It is a race against your opponents in a battle for first place. Follow the link below to give it a try!

Another fun game for students to play in relation to integers is called Feeding Numbers. The point of this game is to feed (add) positive and negative numbers to the fish without resulting in a negative integer. Students need to feed numbers to the fish strategically so that it does not end up with a negative number. This game is a great way for students to learn how to manage positive and negative integers.
Here is a cute song to show students who are learning about integers. It's a fun video to use to keep students interested and engaged during math class.
